Weekend!

Kinda odd to have my weekends be Sunday and Monday, but that’s how the next few classes are laid out. Restaurant is closed Monday, and they have volunteers running the place on Sundays. At least it gives me time to run any errands like… um.. er… well, deposit some checks and call someone about my internship. That should take me all of an hour, if that. Woo, that means I can sit and do nothing tomorrow. 🙂

Funny thing about people. I mentioned that I work at the bus station selling tickets and such. It’s boring work, really, most of the time I sit there doing my homework or surfing the web looking for the latest flash games to keep me occupied. Buses roll in at about the same time every day, or rather they are supposed to. More often than not, they are late. They all follow Route 89, so if there’s traffic, or construction (which there usually is both) then they’re stuck. Also, the southbound buses coming out of Canada usually get held up at customs, and the northbound buses get stuck in New Hampshire at the Hookset Toll Booth. Either way, they are usually 10-15 minutes late. Guaranteed though, if the bus is supposed to arrive at 7:15, by 7:17 I have people coming in asking “is the bus coming?” Like, for crying out loud, it’s only been TWO MINUTES! If it goes over 15 minutes late, I start making phone calls, but give it time! It’s a BUS, not a plane! This isn’t like the pilot can just hit the jet stream to make up for lost time – if it gets stuck behind a line of traffic, it can’t just float over it like in Back to the Future. Or I get the opposite – the bus comes in at 6:30pm, leaves by 6:35pm, and someone comes wandering in at 6:45pm asking if the bus has left yet, because they need to be on it. Erm… what part of “be sure to purchase your ticket at least a half an hour in advance” didn’t you get? I actually had one woman yelling at me because I didn’t think to hold the bus for her! I had to tell her, “I’m sorry ma’am, but I left my mind-reading beanie at home today, and thus had no way to know that you were coming in 15 minutes late.” Sigh.

Mid-block reviews are this week in AM Grill, which should be interesting. I have a feeling the Chef is going to hear 6 people complaining about the same person. Maybe 7 – the girl that just joined our group already figured out that he’s an idiot. Add to the list of stupid things he does – he walks around the kitchen with his knife sharpener hanging from his belt loop like a sword. If he wants to play pirate, that’s fine, but every time he turns around, the steel swings up and smacks someone. Someone told him to remove it, as it’s dangerous, to which he replied “where am I supposed to put it then?” One person said “under the table with the rest of your stuff” but the rest of us were chiming in with “don’t ask,” “I have a suggestion,” and other such things. Watch the guy long enough and you’d think he was going out of his way to find stupid things to do, just to make us tell him not to do that anymore.

Gotta love unsecured wireless access. As I type this, I am at the laundramat. Last week when I was here, I saw a couple of new NECI students with laptops, so I asked them if there was wireless access here. I have read in a few places that the town is working with the colleges to get wireless access set up in the downtown area, so I thought maybe that had already started. Today, I brought my MacBook with me, and sure enough, there is wireless Internet access here. However, I highly doubt that it was set up for public use – the name of the nertwork is “linksys,” which usually means the person took the wireless router out of the box and plugged it in, but didn’t bother to configure anything. There is a set of apartments above the laundramat, so that’s most likely where it is coming from (guessing, based on signal strength.) There are four others showing up on my wireless access list, but those are all secured. Smart people. So, I sorta feel guilty latching onto someone else’s internet feed, but on the other hand, it’s their own fault for not locking it down in the first place. But I’ll be nice – I’ll limit my access to chatting and web surfing. 🙂
