I started playing The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind a week ago. Sure it’s outdated, but it’s still a heck of a lot of fun. To maximize it though, here’s what you do:
1. Download a Graphics Updater mod – this is a fan-created addon, which cleans up the character models a bit. Note that there are a few versions of this, many of which will remove the underwear from enemies you kill, so “Take All” really does take it all. You should also check into some of the many other mods, especially Lilarcor the talking sword.
2. Use cheat codes to beef up your character.
- Hit the ~ key and enter “player->tgm” to Toggle God Mode. You cannot be killed and do not have spell penalties.
- Then enter “player->set speed 500” so you can move faster.
- “player->set strength 1000” will let you carry a TON of stuff. Don’t get carried away with this setting though, as the game wasn’t designed for massively large inventories and it will crash with a Bad Memory Pointer error. Fortunately with the most current game patch it will save your game before exiting.
Now go get yourself a decent weapon (I have been using a long bow) and KILL EVERYTHING! You can’t die, so don’t worry that it takes a while before you can actually do some damage, but eventually I got to the point where I was one-shotting stuff at range. Now for the fun part – go into a town and shoot someone. The guards will come running, and everyone will start to fight back. You can’t die, Highlander! Slaughter them all! Eventually you will get to a point where guards will attack you on sight, but that’s okay, you can deal with them easily enough. Head up to Ghostgate and nail everyone in the Towers of Dusk and Dawn; you’ll come away with some pretty good toys like a full set of Glass Armor and Aurial’s Bow and Shield. Don’t bother continuing on to Dagoth Ur – unless you have Kargoth’s Tools you still can’t do anything up there yet, god-like character or not.
Most shop owners will still do business with you as long as you don’t attack anyone in their view. Sell off anything you don’t need (it might take a few rest periods, as they take a day to replenish their cash) and then kill them! You get all your stuff back and you still have the money it sold for! Funny thing is, I killed off half the Fighter’s Guild, but because no one saw me do it, I was still a member in good standing. However, I slept in someone else’s bed and suddenly I was blackballed. Picky picky!
Only thing to watch for is if you kill an NPC that is essential to the main plot line, the game will end. Save early, save often!
