It's all about me!

This started out as a place where I could keep friends and family informed about my classes at New England Culinary Institute, but since I decided not to complete the program, now it’s just a “here’s what’s going on in my life” kinda thing. It’s not going to be one of those childish “look at how important I think I am!” blogs like every teenager thinks they need, and for the most part it’s going to stay focused on cooking type stuff (although there will be the occasional game or out of the ordinary posting.)

As far as who I am, I used to work in tech, fixing computers and writing software for them. Back in 2005 I decided I was burnt out on the whole scene, but I loved to cook, so why not make a go of it? Problem was with 20 years of computer jobs on my resume, no kitchen would even give me a second look. My guess is, they looked at me as just another guy looking for temp work to get through the dry spell in tech, so I decided to go to a culinary school to show I was serious. While I wouldn’t call my time at NECI a complete waste, as it did get me in the door, I don’t think it was worth what I paid to go there. I was in a class full of kids who just could not take anything seriously, and it just about ruined the experience. I somehow got through it, did my internship, decided I was learning more on the job than in a classroom, and never went back.

It served me well for about 4 years. I held down jobs at a country club and a couple pizza places, but certainly nothing worthy of the degree I never got. Now, I’m back in tech working for an Apple Specialist (who woulda thought?) Life has some odd turns to it..
